Needs
Does anyone have a beach house that they would be willing to let us use for the afterschool kids? We’d love to have the opportunity to take these kids to the ocean this summer! Please contact Jonathan (jonathan@rvba.org) if you are willing to share your beach house, or if you know someone who would like to share theirs!
Summer Camp for Children
We need mission teams/churches/youth groups, etc. to lead camp the following weeks:
June 18-22
June 25-29
July 16-20
July 23-27
July 30-August 3
Thoughts for running camp this summer include:
- having camp from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday (we would like to take children to the pool on Fridays providing we have transportation and that city pools (Fallon) are open).
- pick-up kids (walking) at a few bus stops between 1-1:15 p.m. – everyone at the FH by 1:30 p.m.
- take kids home (walking) drop-off at bus stops between 3:40-4:00 p.m.
We would like to do afternoons, instead of mornings, because city schools hold summer school in the mornings.
Ideas for a group leading a week of camp Monday-Thursday 1:30-3:30 p.m. include:
- bible study/story
- craft time
- playtime/game time
- snack time
- worship/singing
Other ideas for leading a week of camp could include “theme weeks” like sports camps, art camp, craft camp, etc. with bible study/stories included.
If your church/group is interested in hosting a week of camp for the children at the FH we would suggest that you have at least 5 adult or teen leaders and then others to assist. Our hope is to have at least 20 kids enrolled in summer camp. We would ask that the group hosting the camp provide a small snack for the children daily (ex: cookies, chips, or granola bars, etc. and drinks juice, koolaid or lemonade, etc.). The FH will be able to help supply some food, craft materials, game equipment, etc. Host churches/groups will work out all details with Frazier or Jonathan.
Another option for a church to be involved with summer activities would be to provide transportation every Friday to the pool (Fallon). Transportation will be needed on Fridays (pick-up at FH 11:45 a.m. and drop-off at pool (Fallon). We would need to be picked up from the pool at 3:00 p.m. and brought back to the FH. Drivers/volunteers are welcome to join us at the pool!
Please contact Frazier (frazier@rvba.org) or Jonathan (jonathan@rvba.org) at the Friendship House (540) 343.5437 if you have questions or would like to schedule your church/group for a week of camp. If you are interested in having us speak to your group for a Q&A, we would be more than happy to do that. Thanks!!!
