JUNE 2008

BAPTIST MISSION CENTERS
Moderator James Jordan has appointed the Baptist Mission Centers Committee (2009 Ann Burton [Catawba Valley], Inez Flora [East End] & Juan Barr [Hollins Road]; 2010 Pat Dillon [Melrose];  Scotty Carpenter [Oakland] & Wanda Ware [Rosalind Hills] and 2011 Iris Palmer [Cave Spring], Lu Henry [Windsor Hills] & Rick Pinkerman [Virginia Heights]).  The committee met May 19th to organize and begin its work.  The target date for the RVBA assuming ownership and management of the Baptist Mission Centers is September 2, 2008.  Those churches and individuals who have supported the Baptist Mission Centers in the past have more reason to continue that support.  We honor the commitment and sacrifice of those who have served in the past as we stand upon their shoulders to make this ministry more effective.

STANDING ROCK MISSION TRIP
The first, second and third planning meetings for the 2008 Standing Rock Mission trip have been conducted.  We have approximately 146 persons indicating their intention to be on the team this year.  The next planning meeting will be Monday, June 23, 7:00 pm at Villa Heights Baptist Church.  The 2008 mission trip will be August 3-8.
LUCY GRAYBILL
What a joy it was to have known Lucy Graybill.  Lucy went to be with the Lord this past month.  Lucy and John certainly demonstrated what it means to serve as a team for the Lord.  They served as directors of the RVBA Senior Adult Ministry two years ago as well as through the senior’s ministry of Hollins Road Baptist Church for several years.  John has done supply preaching and interim pastor ministry throughout the RVBA.  Most recently, Lucy worked with John during his service as interim pastor at Craig Valley Baptist Church and Crystal Spring Baptist Church.
BRYAN LAWRENCE
Please keep Roanoke City Police Officer Bryan Lawrence in your prayers.  Bryan was seriously injured in the line of duty.  Bryan is a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church.  He is a lay minister who has done supply preaching throughout the RVBA and he just completed a college level course (John Leland Center) in preparation for ministry.  To connect with Bryan -- read about his progress and offer support and encouragement go to www.carepages.com set up an account and then type in officerbryanlawrence.
Continue to pray for the following RVBA churches that are without permanent Pastors:
Airlee Court, Central, Crystal Spring, Enon, Longdale, Rosalind Hills, Springwood and Waverly Place
