Welcome

Welcome to the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association web ministry. We are 73 churches and 3 church-type missions serving in the cities of Roanoke and Salem and counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin, Montgomery, and Roanoke.

Our Beginnings

On August 7, 1841, 38 messengers from 17 churches met at Zion Hill Baptist Church to form the Valley Baptist Association. Officers elected were: Absalom Cornelius Dempsey, moderator; Cornelius Tyree, clerk; and John Nash Johnston, treasurer. The following resolution was approved: “Though this association was formed with the view of advancing the truth within its own bounds and the state, yet Resolved, that the spread of the Gospel shall not be limited to our own region but that we shall use our best efforts to reach every part of the world.”

Our Passion and Commitment

Using “our best efforts to reach every part of the world” remains our passion and commitment. We are churches and missions working together to advance the Redeemer’s Kingdom. The various pages of this web site present some of the ways we are working toward this end.

Our Mission and Vision

*
Our mission is to partner with and strengthen churches to advance the Kingdom of God and to meet needs in the community.

*  Our vision is to be a regional network of healthy churches that are innovative and intentionally sharing the Gospel, making disciples and connecting with their community.
